Airports in Sicily
Here is a comprehensive list of all airports in Sicily or within its jurisdiction. It includes a wide range of information such as flight pricing, transportation options to and from the airports, nearby hotel accommodations, and even suggestions for restaurants close to these airports.
Catania-Fontanarossa Airport:
Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, or Vincenzo Bellini Airport, is Catania's main airport. Named after composer Vincenzo Bellini, a Catania native, it's Sicily's busiest and Italy's 4th busiest. Just 4.3 km southwest of Catania, it handled over 10 million passengers in 2019 and 2022. It's key for WizzAir and Ryanair, offering many domestic and international flights.
It has two terminals, A and C. Terminal A, opened in 2007, has 55 check-in desks, 12 security gates, 6 bridges, and 8 baggage belts. Terminal C, opened in 2018, is smaller with 4 check-in desks, security gates, and boarding gates. But COVID-19 shut Terminal C, so all flights use Terminal A now.
No direct rail to the city, but buses, taxis, and car rentals link the airport well. It's got ATMs, baby care, currency exchange, duty-free, shops, restaurants, and an info desk.
The airport faced a fire in July 2023, disrupting operations. Flights were diverted until it reopened in early August 2023.
Traveling to and from Catania-Fontanarossa Airport (CTA)
By Train: Catania Aeroporto Fontanarossa Train Station, opened in 2021, is 800 meters from the airport. Walk 10 minutes or take a 3-minute free shuttle, running from 4:30 AM to 10:40 PM.
Train Services: Direct trains to Sicily spots like Catania Central (8 mins, €2.10), Taormina-Giardini, Messina, and more. Palermo takes about 3 hours, costs €15.50.

Palermo Falcone-Borsellino Airport, or Punta Raisi, is in Cinisi, about 32 km from Palermo. It's Sicily's second-largest airport and crucial in Italy. In 2019, it handled 7.01 million passengers.
Opened in 1953, it's been developed over the years. Renamed for anti-mafia judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, killed in 1992, it honors their bravery and justice fight.
