I truly don't know where to start because it's an incredible treasure trove of breathtaking artwork, architectural wonders that will make your knees weaken, and a history replete with Renaissance greats like Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci who once strolled the very streets where you're enjoying a gelato and taking picture-perfect Instagram posts to send home to your jealous friends.
But choosing a place to stay before you go is essential, which is why we have carefully chosen and assembled a selection of our top hotels in this really unique Italian city.
1) Hotel Lungarno
Sometimes I have to pinch myself to comprehend the magnitude of where I am; on this particular trip, I was staying at one of my favorite Florence hotels, the Hotel Lungarno, which felt like living in my own home, bathed in the light and soothing energy of the Arno and the famed Ponte Vecchio.
The hotel is the complete historic estate that was created by a Florentine architect called Michele Bönan, and thus the entire property had this infectious Renaissance beauty about it mixed with the fusion of more "modern" painters like Picasso and Cocteau.

The next hotel on my list of recommended Florence hotels is Il Guelfo Bianco, which is located between Piazza Duomo and Piazza San Marco and is just a short walk from the Accademia museum.
The Guelfo Bianco, like a handful of the other hotels I mention here, is housed in two neighboring 16th-century buildings. Yes, the Italians construct things to endure, and Florence is proof of that, so you certainly feel like you're in a Renaissance time machine. But it's a step up from that century since the buildings have been completely rebuilt while retaining their historic beauty with just the appropriate balance of contemporary fusion with the hotel's original antique furnishings and handcrafted drapes.
5) Rivoli Boutique Hotel
I had the privilege of staying at the Rivoli Boutique Hotel, an amazing 4-star superior establishment that was formerly a Franciscan monastery from the fourteenth century. Once there, I was able to fully experience the distinctive and evocative ambiance of a historic home entrenched in the rich history of the city.
6) Hotel David
Staying at Hotel David felt like finding a home than just a hotel. I immediately felt comfortable. Welcomed. I chose it because I wanted an ambiance that prioritized connections and the genuine essence of the place rather than focusing on formal or extravagant luxury.
7) Hotel Franchi
I encountered a new notion of hospitality that was both sophisticated and modern at the Hotel Franchi. I enjoyed contemporary luxuries at their best while staying at one of their 35 freshly remodeled rooms distributed over five different levels.
8) Hotel Orto De Medici
I had an amazing time during my visit to the city of Florence and my experience was made even better by choosing Hotel Orto De Medici.
My stay at Orto Medici was truly comfortable. The room had everything I needed including a minibar, air conditioning and a flat screen TV. Having free Wi Fi access made it very convenient for me to stay connected and plan my activities.

Like meatballs and spaghetti, romance and Italy go hand in hand. Here's a couple's getaway alternative for you and your travel companions, Pitti Palace al Ponte Vecchio, should you want to limit down your options to just ONE romantic hotel in Florence.
Travelers staying at the Pitti Palace Al Ponte Vecchio Hotel can totally explore two of Florence's most popular landmarks, Ponte Vecchio (0.2 km) and Piazza della Signoria (0.4 km).
11) Hotel Pendini
Keeping with the idea of romance in Florence (which, by the way, is a really romantic city! ), this next hotel is one of my all-time favorites: Hotel Pendini.
Back in my undergraduate days (early 1990s), I visited to the Pendini to see a buddy who was living there while studying Italian in Florence. Wasn't she lucky? I suppose I am as well.
Pendini is an ideal location since the major areas of interest in Florence are just a hop, skip, and a jump away. Location is essential, and Pendini is well situated for visiting Piazza Signoria, which is just a short walk away (.3 kilometers distant). And, if you prefer open air and river breezes, the Ponte Vecchio is only. 3km away. You just cannot compete with it.
12) Hotel Calimala
This next hotel Savoring Italy proposes will transport you back in time since it is housed in the sixteenth-century Palazzo degli Agneli. It is, by the way, a 4-star boutique hotel ideally located right in the heart of one of my favorite places in the city: Florence's historic center!
13) Hotel Spadai
The 4-star Hotel Spadai is located only a few hundred meters from the magnificent Duomo. Once upon a time, I had the wonderful opportunity of spending the winter in Florence. The Duomo was practically directly around the corner from my hotel.
14) Grand Hotel Baglioni Firenze
If you're seeking for a family-friendly location, the Grand Hotel Baglioni Firenze can be a good alternative for families with little children.
15) Relais Hotel Centrale Florence
Investigate the newly fully remodeled Relais Hotel Centrale Florence if you're searching for a hotel that's also rather near to the Duomo.
Because it's just a few meters from the Santa Maria Novella central station, I'd highly suggest the Relais Hotel Centrale Florence if you're wanting to set up camp for day excursions from Florence. Now, a word of caution: as I previously said, I spent a lot of time in this city, and since it serves as a hub for the local busses, this area can become quite crowded in the summer. Just remember that.
However, as I already said, the train station's near proximity is a fantastic convenience. And you really should think about riding the Italian railroads if you haven't before on your trip there. In Italy, trains transport people to all desired destinations. Rome? Indeed. Pisa? Surely! Venice, perhaps? Not a problem!
16) B&B Hotel Firenze Nuovo Palazzo di Giustizia
Consider staying at the B&B Hotel Firenze Nuovo Palazzo di Giustizia if a bed and breakfast is more your style. It is well located along this route, which serves as a kind of artery connecting Florence Central to the University Center and the Palazzo.

We were driving through Tuscany on our way down to Puglia recently. It was summer, namely August, and it was HOT. But I just can't stop myself. I adore Florence and can't drive past without stopping!
This time, a local recommended that we stay at Hotel Davanzati, which is at a calm and handy position in the city. It was really early, but we were able to have some breakfast and tea before collapsing for a couple of hours to sleep on their incredibly nice beds with double pillows.

Therefore, I'd highly recommend you stay in the area of Florence known as "Centro Storico," which translates to the historic part of town.
The main reason I would recommend this is that this historic center of Florence is where you're going to be close to the most sought-after, major iconic landmarks like the jaw-dropping splendor of the Duomo, as well as the Uffizi Gallery and Palazzo Vecchio.

Unfortunately, since Florence is a large European city, it is not immune to the myriad difficulties that affect its beauty and peacefulness, such as crime. As a result, in all honesty, I believe it is vital to point out, particularly for first-time tourists and non-Italian speakers, the sections of Florence we believe you should avoid.
To begin, there is the northwestern portion of Florence known as "Le Piagge," which is closer to the airport and is reputed to have greater poverty rates and, in our view, higher degrees of social isolation. Another area to avoid is the Santa Maria Novella train station, which can be rather loud owing to heavy traffic, particularly during busy tourist months like August. It is also noted for having a larger number of pickpockets since many tourists, who are ignorant of their surroundings, may let down their guard.

It is vastly understated to say that Italy has a lot to offer overall. Thus, the majority of first-time guests to this lovely paradise often include a few other locations into their itinerary. For this reason, I would strongly advise spending at least three days in Florence-based on decades, well, most of my life. You'll have plenty of time to see all the main sights, including Piazzo Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, and a few museums and art galleries. After that, you could have one more day to visit a nearby city like Siena or Pisa.

Whether you decide to stay in Florence's downtown or outside of it before you visit largely depends on whether you plan to drive into the city or use another kind of aided transportation, such as a bus, train, or private vehicle. Due to its small size in comparison to other big Italian cities like Milan or Rome, most people choose to reside outside of the city if they possess a vehicle.
You may escape the trouble of looking for an automobile in this method. However, sometimes, as shown with the Florence hotels that we suggested, some provide either direct private parking or a kind of valet service. Overall, if at all possible, we advise you to attempt to remain in the city.
