Is Bergamo a walkable city?

Bergamo is really good to explore on foot, especially in the old upper town, the Città Alta. All the streets and alleyways are narrow, cobbled, and embedded in the magnificent medieval magnificence. Sidewalks have been laid everywhere one might need to walk, so exploring on your feet is the most satisfying way of absorbing the history of the place and seeing its landmarks – the Venetian Walls, the Venetian houses, and the beautiful Piazza Vecchia. Bergamo’s lower town, the Città Bassa, is also a very good place for strolling around, with the shops and cafes and all. A large city area like Bergamo is quite compact and easy to stroll around, whether you are interested in history and architecture or just the views.
