You may be wondering what is a lasagna tray doing at an Italian Barbecue?!? At an Italian grigliata (barbecue), you will surely find plenty of delicious meat. Minus the sauce. They don’t smother their meat in sweet sauces usually as we do in the States. There is usually a wonderfully light sauce based on olive oil and fresh herbs.
Perfect to dunk your fresh bread in.But there is always lasagne. At least at a barbecue that Teresa has is involved in;).

My husband’s nonna was taking a break in the shade. She worked hard cooking with her daughter (my mother-in-law Teresa)for the feast. They made a lasagne and baked some desserts.

Even Italian cats get to enjoy homemade lasagne.

Tender and sweet grilled eggplant and stuffed tomatoes were part of the contorni (side dishes).

Zio Giovanni’s pears were almost ready to sample.

The family reunited for a day of eating.

Yep. That’s me on the right. Chilling after drinking a little too much homemade vino. Little Luca took that photo. I’m relaxing and enjoying every moment.

I'm back home and will catch you all up on some more deliciousness from Italy in the next few weeks. Thanks for stopping by!:)

Will the family adopt me? I promise to be a good cleaner-upper. I wouldn't even dare cook in a family that can serve up an awesome feast like this. I won't eat much, promise....wait, I take that last part back.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back, Lora!

ReplyDeleteThank you very much, An:)
DeleteLoving your trip write up. I sure love BBQs, since there will always be a variety of grilled meat.. LOL.. however, I am sure everyone can make room for a cheesy Lasagna.. I know I can. xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks Joanna:) I did make room. I actually only ate a big plate of the lasagna and the side dishes;)
DeleteI want to know more about those stuffed tomatoes.......oh my!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a perfect family gathering. All the foods look delicious! My mouth is watering, just thinking about the lasagne. (Recipe? please?) :)
ReplyDeleteI loved hearing about how many Italians 'do' a backyard BBQ. The part about the lasagna made me think of the huge pan of lasagna on an Italian Thanksgiving table. Turkey with all the fixin's, and the lasagna. It's almost sacrilege without it :) Awesome photos, and you look so cute lounging in that chair after too much wine! I want to pinch your cheeks! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI knew it wouldn't be long before you swept us to Italy! Amazing food, family and adventures. xoxo
ReplyDeleteThis is my idea of the perfect BBQ... since I don't eat meat. :-) I love all those sides I'm seeing on the table. Looks fabulous!
