Aperitivo in Italy!

Aperitivo in Italy!

You may be walking around for hours in Italy and be lucky enough to stumble into a bar during the magical aperitivo time of the early evening. Aperitivo in Italy is a must-do event! Going to an aperitivo is one of our favorite things to do while we are visiting any city. Sure, you may encounter places that offer you chips and peanuts (gasp! it does exist!), but for the most part, you will be served a variety of finger foods. Some places even have a buffet of lovely snacks to nibble on with your appetite opening drinks.

Eating in Venice: Trattoria Ca D'Oro (Alla Vedova)

Eating in Venice: Trattoria Ca D'Oro (Alla Vedova)

The last time we visited Venice, I had every intention of dining at Ca D'Oro.  Eating in Venice can be a little tricky and I had Trattoria Ca D'Oro (Alla Vedova) on my mind.  This past June, my family and I were on a quick visit to Venice with our uncle, and this was a restaurant that was brought into discussion once again. We had an idea of where it was located, but it was a serendipitous encounter with a local Venetian that finalized our decision on where to eat that hot summer day walking around La Serenissima.

Colpo di Fulmine-A Quick Italian Lesson

Colpo di Fulmine-A Quick Italian Lesson

Since Valentine's Day is around the corner, and every thing about the Italian language screams romance and beauty, we wanted to share a phrase we adore! That phrase is: Colpo di Fulmine and this is a super quick Italian lesson.

Colpo di fulmine means love at first sight! But it literally means a lightning strike. So it’s like you were struck by love! It’s as if love struck you unexpectedly and even as powerfully as a lightning bolt would.

I think this quote explains it perfectly:

“Colpo di fulmine. The thunderbolt, as Italians call it. When love strikes someone like lightning, so powerful and intense it can’t be denied. It’s beautiful and messy, cracking a chest open and spilling their soul out for the world to see. It turns a person inside out, and there’s no going back from it. Once the thunderbolt hits, your life is irrevocably changed.”

So what about you, our dear readers! Have you ever been struck by that infamous lightning bolt of love? Tell us about it in a comment!
