Risotto with Porcini Mushrooms {Risotto con i Funghi Porcini}

I have a culinary confession to make. I’m not crazy about porcini mushrooms. Let me clarify, I’m not crazy about dried porcini mushrooms.

Silent Sunday Italy: Bellagio

One of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever been to in Italy is Bellagio. Bellagio is also know as the pearl of Lake Como. There aren’t many ways to arrive there. Actually, I’ve only been there arriving from Como.

Chocolate Yeast Cake with Brown Butter Frosting

I can’t tell you how relieved I was to bake something that wasn’t with mangoes. Maybe you also are feeling a little relief. I didn’t realize that mangoes are such a hit or miss fruit with people. Kind of like cilantro.

Blueberry Mango Buckle

It’s been mango madness month over here. I really can’t keep up with all these mangoes. It must be because our winter was so hot that our tree was able to produce what it was meant to produce.

Silent Sunday Italy: Ristorante La Madonnina

There are many lovely places in Italy with delicious foods and wonderful views. I have yet to find a restaurant with views like there is at La Madonnina, located near Lecco, Italy.

Peach and Cornmeal Upside-Down Cake and some Como

Thinking of what to bake while in Italy is never easy. The requests start to come trickling in on about day 3 from my sister-in-law that has a huge sweet tooth. I settled on this quick and painless peach and cornmeal upside-down cake for a couple reasons.

An Italian Grigliata

You may be wondering what is a lasagna tray doing at an Italian Barbecue?!? At an Italian grigliata (barbecue), you will surely find plenty of delicious meat. Minus the sauce. They don’t smother their meat in sweet sauces usually as we do in the States. There is usually a wonderfully light sauce based on olive oil and fresh herbs.

Il Mercato-Parte Due (The Market)

Back to the mercato. My first post featured just the fruits and vegetables. I saved the best for this post. The cheeses and the cured meats.

Honey Challah for #TwelveLoaves

I couldn’t wait to get baking this month’s bread: Honey Challah. The conversation of challah came up when we first launched Breaking Bread Society in May.
